Dreams really do come true at The Dartry Health Club!

Last Saturday to celebrate the launch of our swim Ireland swimming program, a very special Mermaid called Demi, brought so much joy to the lucky kids who won our competition to swim with a real life mermaid in aid of Temple Street Childrens Hospital! A big thank you to our members, former Irish & Munster rugby player Alan Quinlan for supporting the event with us!

Watch our video to catch the highlights from this extraordinary event:

Swimming will never quite be the same as kids attend a swim along event at the Dartry Health Club with a real life mermaid.

One great activity for kids is learning how to swim. This is one of the greatest skills you can teach children whilst they are still quite young. Not only is it a great form of exercise, it teaches children about water safety, which is something every parent wants their child to be aware of.

The Dartry Health Club teamed up with Swim Ireland to launch their very first Swimming Program for Children. A Merlesque Mermaid was flown over from the UK to host a swim along with some very lucky children to celebrate this launch. This was a first time event in Ireland to grace these shores, and an experience only recently documented by Kim Kardashian herself with her daughter.

The health club is exceptionally well known for its community engagement previously supporting St. Luke’s Hospital with a family fun day; this event was no different. The Dartry Health club teamed up with Temple St. Children’s hospital. This event helped raise funds and provided a very special girl a unique experience to help ease her unfamiliarity of swimming.

The Mermaid was a professional free diver who had a custom made fin which enabled her to swim through the water easily. Demi (mermaid) can hold her breath for long periods of time and has performed in the UK and internationally.

The Mermaid experience consisted of children of various ages and abilities doing a range of activities. These included mermaid fetch, songs, stories, and last but by no means least the main attraction mermaid swims with the children.

The Dartry Health Club is a recent acquisition in the Iconic Health Clubs Group portfolio having been taken over from LA Fitness. There has been a lot of work to make this health club truly accessible to all the family including free membership to under 16’s with parent membership. The Dartry’s swimming program is another facet to make this health club the first choice for family gym membership.

Ciara Lefroy Company Director said “ What a fantastic and unique event we have had here today. (Saturday 5th September 2015) We are absolutely delighted to have been able to bring such a magical experience to the kids, one which we hope they will always remember. When it comes to children’s swimming there is always some apprehension with getting into the water particularly for the first few times. This was a great way to highlight just how much fun the water can be. On a personal note it was heartwarming to see a young girl from Temple Street grow in confidence from a private swim with the mermaid. She had been encouraged only recently to learn to swim for therapeutic reasons. However up until now had been very unsure of the water. ”

The Dartry Health Club is known as Dublin’s premiere health club and offers a superior approach to fitness located in D6. The staff are always on hand to assist with its members requirements be it in or out of the water from their most junior of members to the older ones too!

Swimming lessons available for all ages and abilities from 3+ years.
