We will have eight new Freemotion Treadmills being delivered to us at the start of December while we will also be replacing the older dumbbells at the beginning of next year.

White Flag Awards

During the summer we completed the annual audit for the National Quality Standard in health and fitness. The rigorous audit ensures that we consistently adhere to only the highest standard in management, safety, hygiene and customer service. We delighted to let you that that we the achieved an Outstanding Award which is the highest awards given to health clubs. Our sister clubs Icon Health Club and 1escape health club also achieved this standard which is a fantastic achievement for Iconic Health Clubs.

Building Management System

We have invested €20k in a new Building Management System for the club. The BMS will give us far more control over the air temperature in the club. This has been a problem during the winter months particularly by poolside and the changing rooms and began when the club operated as LA Fitness. After significant investigation by Iconic Health Clubs we are now confident that this large investment will rectify the air temperatures going forward.

Gym closure dates

A small reminder from last months’ newsletter that due to exciting upgrade works the gym will be closed from December 16 – 18th. This is to carry out a refurbishment of our reception area and also the corridors on the ground floor.  Don’t forget that you will have full access to Icon Health Club and also 1escape health club during this time to ensure that you can maintain your fitness training.

As always, if you have any feedback or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I hope that I will see you all at the members Christmas party where we toast the Christmas season together.

Yours in health & fitness,

Sean Gavin

New equipment

We have pledged a further €50,000 investment for new cardio equipment which will be delivered to us over the next eight weeks. Arriving first will be new cross trainers followed by eight new treadmills which we expect to have at the start of December. We are really excited with these new additions.  Check out the video below to get an idea of what to expect.

New Cross Trainers

We are also getting some new cross trainers that are the most natural feeling striding motion machine on the market. They will also have an interactive console with some great programmes.

We have also ordered a selection of new free weights for the strength floor. The lead time for these is a little bit longer, but we should have them early in the New Year.

Club refurbishments

Since the acquiring the club in 2016, Iconic Health Clubs has continuously invested in club improvements, including the car park, a new studio and the Strength Training Suite. Their next focus is refurbishing our reception and ground floor corridors in order to create and more luxurious and enjoyable social space for our members and guests. The builders that we have contracted to carry out these works have advised us that for health and safety reasons they will need us to close the club for a period of 3 days whilst they undertake the project.  This will result in the club closing from Sunday December 16th – Tuesday 18th (traditonally our quietest usage dates) and we will reopen on Wednesday 19th December.  We are extremely excited about this and can’t wait to see the finished article.

Kids swimming programme

Our swim programme has gone from strength to strength since it’s introduction two years ago.  We are delighted that we have progressed so many of our junior members through to level 8.  In order to progress the course even further we will be launching our Junior Lifeguard course soon. This will include a combination of both class room and pool based activities. If you would like further details please contact Dave at swimming@thedartryhealthclub.ie and register your interest.

Everyone knows that regular exercise is good for the body. But exercise is also one of the most effective ways to improve your mental health. Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts overall mood. And you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to reap the benefits. Research indicates that modest amounts of exercise can make a difference. No matter your age or fitness level, you can learn to use exercise as a powerful tool to feel better.

Studies show that exercise can treat mild to moderate depression as effectively as antidepressant medication—but without the side-effects, of course. In addition to relieving depression symptoms, research also shows that maintaining an exercise schedule can prevent you from relapsing.

Exercise is a powerful depression fighter for several reasons. Most importantly, it promotes all kinds of changes in the brain, including neural growth, reduced inflammation, and new activity patterns that promote feelings of calm and well-being. It also releases endorphins, powerful chemicals in your brain that energize your spirits and make you feel good. Finally, exercise can also serve as a distraction, allowing you to find some quiet time to break out of the cycle of negative thoughts that feed depression.

So, join us next week as we host a special class to mark Mental Health Awareness month. We have teamed up with our partners Suicide or Survive to promote the feel good benefits of exercise and discuss #stressmanagement techniques for your #mentalhealth and #emotionalwellbeing.SOS Dartry2

Farewell and Thank you.

Unfortunately, we are saying goodbye to Eduard who has been part of our swimming team since 2016.
